Just a quickie. Added a new project, “Franklin SAT-2400″ to which I’ve started documenting. Completed the page for the Bronica 220-135 modification. Oh yeah, and I got a new job, booyah bitches.
After coming in possession of a Franklin SAT-2400 I decided I wanted to re-purpose the screen because I’ll never use it as intended and its got a really nice screen attached to it. After realising that I have NO idea how to re-purpose electronics I decided it would be a good idea none the less to document its disassembly and make note of whatever chips I could for looking up.
In his book “The Paradox of Choice,” the academic psychologist Barry Schwartz famously argued that having more choice does not necessarily make individuals (or societies) happier. This is counter-intuitive. Does not “affluence,” by any definition, boil down to “more choice?” And does not more choice mean more freedom? More freedom more welfare? At the limit, the answer is “No,” and for two main reasons:
For one, there’s paralysis. As choices increase, the effort required to choose increases and the ability to reach decisions — to choose– actually declines. For another, there’s regret. The more choices we have, the easier it becomes to regret the choices we make when they turn out to be less than perfect, as they almost certainly will. In other words, the more choices there are, the more any dissatisfaction must be your fault; you could have chosen differently, after all.
After three cups of espresso, an all nighter, and an unnatural driving force to get something done, I’ve finally finished the inital version of the intro to photography course I’ll hopefully be teaching through HTINK. Its currently being reviewed by Ryan and Yuli, but I’m confident about it. It took about 20 hours to write 43 slides with lecture notes. Revamped it a few times during, which isnt easy to do and keep continuity.
Next step, replace ALL the images that arent creative commons. Eventually I’d like to update it once a month with new images, if it takes off. If anything I’ll make the PDF free, but when it comes down to it, a mans gotta eat.
In todays randomness my buddy Joe Fasulo asked if I wanted to partake in the 2011 dc3 challenege. I have very little experience in the field of forensics, but this should be fun and a great learning experience!
Just made a github account in an attempt to organize my projects that involve circuits and coding.

I got the code working for this fireflies project. Ill get the physical materials I need tomorrow and I’ll hopefully have this sent out by Tuesday.
Super fast shipping too
Things I’ve done today.
Back to work.
Being this is the first time I’ve had a decently paying job where I wasnt living paycheck to paycheck I’m participating in a few secret santa events; most noteably the Reddit Secret Santa. Whereas I cannot say what I’m making my giftee (because it’s the same thing I’m making for my girlfriend), I will tell you this. Two microcontrollers a bunch of leds, some hot glue, a jar and some dumbluck and I’ll have a really neat present to give out to people. Write-up coming soon.
I think I have a fetish for small computers, gadgets and the like. First off to mention some stuff about the GirlTech IM-ME that came in. It’s pretty awesome and mega cute. I havn’t had a chance to do much with it because I don’t spend too much time at home in front of my personal machine which severely hinders my hacking time. Most of my reading has been on the train and on my lunch breaks at work. Throw in that my work internet is filtered I cant connect to the IM-ME service and sniff those usb packets.
Although it’s been done I’m trying to write a usb driver for the sucker so I can use it under linux as a remote terminal until those GoodFET boards come in that Travis is sending me, it’ll be fun to solder those SMD chips </sarcasm>. Once those are in I can work on writing some firmware for this sucker, another task I’ve never ventured into. Learning experiences are just abound with this kind of work!
I also just bought a new toy becuase when I get bored at work I look for ways to spend the money I havnt made yet. Or rather, spend the money that I would normally spend on drinks at the bar. I purchased a zipit z2 off ebay for $15 (including shipping, wtf) which makes me a bit weary since it retails for $50. Worse come to worse I’ll get my money back and not have a new gadget on the mega cheap. Good offset since the IM-ME cost way more than it should have. Damn hackers buying all the gadgets up when they show up on hackaday and the like. My plans for it are just a travel console with a few old games, perhaps a small programming console when I’m bored, but I really would like to get a small travel pentesting setup on there. An image was made by irongeek that has pentesting tools. Super tiny wireshark or driftnet for the lulz, that would be great! Oh well thats all for now. When I finally get to sit down in front of Ajax or get a new build running on Ten/Fuji (my laptop) I’ll post something more technical. Nothing new, nothing ground breaking, but fuck it, this is my blog, I can do whatever I want.
